[therefore in reality, he just wants to make money off of you and hook people on enough drugs to pay for his second home] -there isnt a high risk if you have no previous thoughts/idealizations of suicide [im talking every day here] and the medication makes you feel more active, and people starting a course of antidepressants are actually more likely to engage in risky and suicidal behaviour because they have the energy to do so. - about 3.4% of people with major depression commit suicide [wikipedia] that's not a high risk if you ask me. - and major =regular..there is no difference here - you cant legitimately tell if a person really has major depression after the first session. There are different levels of depression and they are defined in the DSM4. People with severe depression are at risk for suicide, but a lot more has to be considered, such as, ARE you suicidal? Do you think about death and dying? Do you feel hopeless, worthless and guilty? All those add up to a pretty good case for medication. If the depression is less severe, without suicidal thoughts, counseling can be very effective. If you seriously disagree with the psychologist, talk to him/her about it and if you cannot work together, find someone else to see, there are lots of different therapists and you can find someone compatible with you.
