Stanford Professor Robert Sapolsky, posits that depression is the most damaging disease that you can experience. Right now it is the number four cause of disability in the US and it is becoming more common. Sapolsky states that depression is as real of a biological disease as is diabetes.

A wonderfully put together talk on depression- a disease that intersects on several levels of consciousness- biological, psychologically, and genetically. The more we learn about this learned state of helplessness the more we can sensibly fight it as a society. Genetics and heredity merely implies a vulnerability to depression, not an inevitability.
