Question by Nikita: Coping with miserable post-test depression?
‘evening everyone;
approximately a week ago, I’d written a unit test for my senior french course (the exam was split into several different grammatical sections.) I felt fairly good about three-quarters of the test, but I realized after the exam that I was totally careless about one section, and likely screwed up another by mixing up “tense” rules and not double-checking my answers as thoroughly as I should have. I won’t be getting the results back for another week, but I feel miserable and I can’t seem to get the exam off my mind. I have a history of being a straight A honors student, and managed to score 97% for the course in the previous semester. It’s a little nerve-wracking when you don’t feel confident about the work that you’ve done, and I feel especially idiotic because this was a course that I was doing so well in prior to taking this exam. my question is, how do you guys cope with the feelings of uncertainty and post-test “woe” after writing an iffy test? many thanks…

I know how you feel. I am also a straight A student and when I think I messed up on a test after the test, I get obsessed and stressed out- questioning my worth. Sort of how you are right now >_<
But what I do is put it aside. Nothing can be changed now (unless you can get a retest) but judging by the time; I would think not. Stop thinking about it by either getting into a book- getting out of your real life into a story. Listen to some music; play a sport. Concentrate on something else! And most of the time; when I get the test back; I didn't do that bad! (Especially for us straight A students) Don't question yourself and forget about it. Just remember to do better next time so you don't have to worry about it. ^_^ good luck; you seem well on your way through school is you're worrying about something like this.

I’m sixteen and I’m a senior in high school. This year I’ve started having a lot of the “symptoms” of depression (apathy, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, difficulty making decisions, excessive guilt, irresponsible behavior, loss of interest in food, sadness, anxiety, or a feeling of hopelessness, losing interest in things once extremely important to me, withdrawal from friends, etc). It’s been just about everything except for things like suicidal thoughts. I had twice the work-load from school and such last year, but I was never so tired. I’ve stopped caring about music, the one thing that drove my life, I can’t make myself do anything anymore. I’ve lost strength, desire, and drive. It’s scaring me, and I don’t know what to do. I’ve been more emotional than ever this year as well. I don’t know, I don’t want to bring it up with my parents. Are there any reasons this could just be because it’s senior year and stuff? Thanks.

My mother saw a CD for sale in a catalog in the States whichas music “confirmed to treat depressive symptons”. She wants to thorw away 18 bucks on this given that I have clinical depression, but I feel it’s bogus. Has everyone ever heard of this?

I haven’t heard of it, but I do believe it’s possible to treat depression with music. Music can produce several various emotions in individuals. And considering that it really is 18 bucks anyway, may as well give it a try.
