Within the speech I will be speaking about suicide rates, suicidal behavior, common ways of suicide, and how suicidal people can get help. So yeah, does anyone have any ideas to how I can start off and end a speech about teenage suicide?

I THINK IT WOULD BE REALLY COOL IF YOU JUST STARTED OFF BY SAYING RANDOM STATISTICS ABOUT suicide. Something like (don’t mind the statistics i made them up) this look around the room, 44% OF ATHLETES WILL/HAVE COMMITED SUICIDE, 12% of students attending private school have/will commit suicide,10% of students commiting suicide weren’t on drugs 15% of students living in normal middle class households will/have commit suicide, 30% of teens who have/will commit suicide have totally oblivious friends, 20% of students who commit suicide had shocked teachers and parents, 70% of people who knew students who commit suicide had no idea it was coming. Now look around the room, do these people seem happy, think about it. (then talk about like how you can help this stop) GOOD LUCK!!!!

Parents and Peers As a psychologist very familiar with the research, I think in “ Do Parents Matter? ” Judith Harris is conflating personality and behavior, which are two different concepts. Personality has more to do with genetic traits related to mood and energy (which plenty of research indicates are strongly influenced by genetics). Behavior, on the other hand, depends on context and is guided by laws of behaviorism–that is, reinforcement principles. If parents do (or do not) provide reinforcement for specific types of behavior, you will either see or not see those behaviors. Likewise, certain behaviors will be reinforced in the classroom by teachers.

I’m 17 and I’ve had depression for about 5years now.

Lately I’ve noticed a lot of my friends and people I know are claiming they have depression. (I know I shouldn’t judge because I don’t know their full story) But it seems like it’s the ‘cool’ thing to do.

I don’t tell people about my depression (except my really close friends and family) and I don’t want any sympathy. It really seems like these people (mainly girls) are going around telling people just for the attention.

For example, one girl I know she broke up with her boyfriend and now she is telling people she has clinical depression.

I know this isn’t really my problem. But this is negativly reflecting on those who ACTUALLY have depression. It is a disease not a way to get attention.

What do you think?

Some people are real attention grabbers and think that depression is fun.
People who actually have depression are suffering.
I agree. I have depression and some people are "Oh I have depression because such and such broke up with me"
I wouldn’t be surprised that if their parents or a school official took their depression seriosuly and recommened them to a mental facility or a therapist.
You watch how fast they say they don’t have depression.

Okay, so, this kid I know, is now iming me telling me how his life sucks and how he wantes to commit suicide. Nobody likes him at our school and he gets picked on badly. I mean, I want to help, and I keep telling him its stupid and that he shouldn’t, but its getting to a serious point now. Help?
Yeah, I am planning on telling a counsler, but we don’t go back to school until Tuesday. He could do a number of things by then.

First, don’t tell him it’s stupid, he may shut down all together. You should tell the school counselor, and they need to tell his parents. He may be angry at you for telling, but that’s OK. Better angry than dead.

Is teen suicsuicide considered by some parents to be a form of teenage rebellion? Some parents think that it is only for scaring them.

Does it have to be black or white?
I know some teens commit suicide seriously, while some teens just to scare their parents. Laters are mostly taking few pills than that is required to kill or jump from 2nd floor and broke a leg, cut wrists not too deep etc… But I cannot say the percentage of shows and real ones.

I want to know the most painless way to commit suicide. I’ve heard something about leaving your car on and falling asleep can kill you or something like that, i’m not sure. Please let me know some painless ways to commit suicide.

First of all, stop being selfish and think of all the people around you that you’re going to leave heartbroken, depressed and confused. Whatever you’re problem it can be solved and you WILL get through it, dont give up hope so easily. ‘When theres a WILL theres a WAY’ .. remember that, i know everyone says that, but its true. Ill tell you a little story..

My friend’s cousin who has 5 children hanged herself, apparently she had a lot of issues that none of her relatives knew about.. she wouldnt come to anybody for help, we found out she had money issues and other problems. She lived in poverty and not once did she ever call for help from her aunties who had enough money to help her. Some of the reasons might’ve been that she was the daughter of my friend’s aunt’s husband (uncle) from another wife. However, I believe she was treated like family but she just lived far away and I guess there just wasnt enough communication.. or maybe she was embarassed. Now, her children are left w/o parents.. her husband left her i THINK im not sure.. but right now my friend’s mom is considering adopting them but they live in another country and it takes years until they could be officially adopted.

Now the children are not only scarred but they have no parents to support them. Do you know what thats like? I always pray that they dont give up hope when I think about situations likes that, Can you imagine yourself like 5 or 3 years old and you just saw your mother hang herself? Its aweful .. so I really hope you’re not serious about what you’re saying it really IS a selfish thing to do.
