life can make you depressed, deal with it. What’s going to happen to people who pay taxes when the money’s gone and they retire?This “disease” was created by doctors being paid by drug companies.

This is a short video about bipolar disorder (manic depression) and suicide. Increasingly people are given electroshock therapy to treat their suicidal ideations (ideas of suicide). I think the phrase is pretty self evident.

As far as agreement or not, let me just put it this way: the last time I was a liberal, I was a teenager with no job, straight Ds on my report cards (if I were lucky) and nothing to show for my time on this Earth. When I was a conservative (as I am today) I was an honors graduate from a good business school, gainfully employed with a prestigious firm, and well on my way to starting my own business.

My doctors tell me that I do in fact have an anxiety disorder which is why I’m severely depressed but they didn’t tell me which. Can you please study my “symptoms” and tell me which anxiety disorder I could have (if any)? Thanks

7. I get antsy around other people and I always feel like I’m boring them

OCD and Social Anxiety….these are my exact symptoms…I take xanax, anafranil and norpramine 4 times a day and for the first time I am feeling “normal”!

Question by Pie: Why are people with Bipolar disorder “crazy”?
I’ve never understood this, really.
Some people think that Bipolar is the equivelant to insanity.
I don’t get it, really, and am having trouble looking at it from this sort of angle.
If you think (honestly), or have ever thought (honestly), that Bipolar was sheer craziness, will you tell me why? What makes you think that you must stay away from these people?
Enlighten me.

i don’t think you need to stay away from them…but they could be unpredictable..or violent…like any person….but i’m sure if they take medication and control ot they would be fine

aren’t they known as “ANTI-depressants”???? meaning OPPOSITE of depression?? so why do people want to kill themselves sometimes?

One particular theory is that when somebody starts coming out of a depression they then have the energy to commit the act of suicide. The period when a particular person starts coming out of a depression is a extremely dangerous time for them due to now obtaining a lot more power even though little else has altered for them.

can depression be contributing significantly to my loss of discipline in college?
im a freshmanin college currently , i attended a christian high school, and was picked on, a lot, i also had no friends and was completely alone
after a while, i grew to hate everything there and i hated the loneliness and how i was judged, and i started to hate myself, i steadily got worse, first i hated all christians, then i just hated people in general, i used to be sad and upset all the time, and even though i normally have good work ethic and am an A B student that started to decline
that seems normal enough, i know its not rare for people to get picked on in high school, but what i think is abnormal is that i seem to dwell on it STILL
i hate everything about myself sometimes (not literally, but im really picky about myself) , i still remember every little thing they said about me, the way i look, the way i act, everything, and i feel like a failure
i also have a hatred for christianity, which is totally not me, ive never been the type of person to hate someone because of anything like race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. but the hatred i have for christianity really scares me sometimes, i try to stop if i catch myself, and i KNOW its wrong, but its habit,
i also sleep all the time, and not because im tired, because i want to “escape” from situations that i dont want to deal with, and i notice myself getting angry easy
ive also “let myself go” im normally very active and i was trying hard to lose weight (im a little overweight) but now i find myself eating ridiculous amounts even when im not that hungry
this is consuming me, and i hate it, no one would ever be able to tell any of this about me, i seem really happy and carefree on the outside
my absolute biggest worry is that this might be causing my grades to drop, no im not trying to blame my grades on a disorder, i know that no one and nothing is to blame but me, but im wondering if these “symptoms” look like it could be depression? or if this is something i need to solve by myself, also if it is depression and i got treatment would that by any chance help my academic discipline at all?? is it bad to put a person on medicine for depression (i know a lot of people who say it is? is getting tested for depression worth it (i really dont want to talk about this or tell ANYONE, including family/doctors) please help i just want to be normal and do better in school

YES, Please go to student health or something. depression can be helped with medication and not taking care of it is truly dangerous.

Nursing research on people with mental illness is quite challenging, especially on ethical and professional practices.  Unlike normal people, people with mental illnesses including those recovering from mental illnesses are vulnerable and working with them on research presents an ethical dilemma. Kovisto et al., (2001) discuss in greater details how ethical principles can be applied in nursing research with people who are recovering from mental illnesses.

People with mental illness including those who are recovering from mental illnesses are regarded as vulnerable participants in research since they are considered to be completely or partly unable to make autonomous decision when they are participating in research (Sturm, 2004; Usher and Foster, 2006).  The main question to consider when dealing with patients who have mental disability is, are psychiatric patients in a position to give consent to participation in research? One of the most essential parts of any research is getting consent from the participants (O’Brien et al., 2001). They have to understand in details what entails the research and consequently give their consent. Research is nursing research on mental illness patients.

According to ethical guidelines as spelt out in Nuremberg Code that was declared during World Medical Association’s Declaration of Helsinki, voluntary consent is completely essential before carrying out any research that touches on human subjects.  Nuremberg Code requires that participants must show legal capacity to consent, show free choice, and show comprehension of the subject of research.  U.S congress has also passed legislation that establishes the National Commission for Protection of Human Subjects which gives important guidelines to be followed with dealing with institutionalized children and persons with mental disability. Provisions in these codes should be closely adhered to in any research with mental ill patients.

The study, which looked for consent of people with mental illnesses to participate in the study, found out some understood what was involved in the study. There were those who declined to participate and those who accepted to participate in the study which means that they understood what the study was about. While carrying out the research, the study found out that there were some ethic dilemmas that had to be dealt with specifically as they required further study and debate.

The findings of this study influence my practices as a nurse in different ways. I have come to understand that dealing with people with mental illnesses especially in research context is quite difficult since they cannot give informed consent. Even when they give informed consent, there are issues regarding their comprehension of the study (Magnusson et al., 2002).  From the study, I have learnt that every time I have to deal with mental ill people, I have to consider the entire ethical framework.  The result of the study changes the way I would offer care to mentally ill patients.

From the study, I have learned important lessons as pertains to carrying out research on mental illness people. I have learnt that ethics in research, as outlined in the Nuremberg Code is important even when dealing with people who cannot give consent to participation like mental ill people. This study is important in nursing research as it reinforce basic ethical principles.  Research and reflection in nursing is important because it contributes to the existing body of knowledge in the field.
