Hello everyone, okay so i have been suffering from severe depression disorder for a while now “few years”, and it has been affecting my ability to study real real bad. i also feel like i have ADD i have made some online tests ” nothing official” and it seemed like i do have ADD. if i only could not focus very well on school then i would say yes maybe it’s depression, but i also keep getting distracted ALL THE TIME, also i cant be in a class i hate being in a class for so long i get bored and because i cannot focus i feel like each hour is 3 years and i simply need to MOVE.

so all of these symptoms made me believe that i have ADD along with depression ” how awesome, huh? “, so i told my psychiatric and she gave me some Ritalin to be taken with the antidepressants i’m on since few years, i was so excited in the beginning but it was awful, i was paranoid all the time and even had to make emergency call to the hospital because i felt very suicidal so i was asked to immediately stop taking Ritalin.

my psychiatric said that i probably do not have ADD, all of these symptoms mentioned above can be also symptoms of depression. and she said she wont put me on ADD meds until i overcome my depression . i understand her but i mean if i really do have ADD i will never be able to study without the meds, what am i suppose to do is it true that these symptoms can be also side effects of depression ?

i also have depression, im noto sure really what the symptoms are alone because i had an ED with my depression, or depression with my ED,, im not too sure but it sounds like it., talk to someone!

As time went on, however, I noticed that on average one out of every three was being sent to receive a prescription.

Now, I’m not at liberty to divulge the reasons/causes/thoughts of the prescribing doctor, but the Patten I witnessed was indicative of a growing trend to prescribe patients anti-depressants. In 1996, the number of Americans on anti-depressants was around 13.3 million. In 2005, the number reached 27 million, with no indication of slowing down. So, for nearly two decades, the American consumer was told by television commercials and by drug associations that pharmaceuticals such as Prozac and Zoloft are helpful when combating the symptoms of depression.

However, a new study suggests that placebos are just as effective as anti-depressants. A team of researchers gathered results of six studies to discover that for those with mild to moderately severe depression received no additional benefits from anti-depressants. The group that was given a placebo drug (a sugar pill), were found to no significant difference in their treatment and outcome compared to those who were given the anti-depressant.

The average amount of time at the clinic I worked for was about 16 months. Some take a little more time, and some a little less. For those who are not having results with psychotherapy, it may be the clinician or therapist. I have seen the success rate for patients who switch therapists. Don’t get turned off because you have tried several times but didn’t find the right therapist. Use this study as an impetus to keep trying. Depression is not incurable, but with effort, you can help yourself without having to worrying about chemical side effects.

Question by Suzanne: Is there anyway I can be positive that I am bipolar disorder?
A year and a half ago my parents suggested that I was bipolar. I went to a highly reknowed PyschoPharmacolgist. I filled out a ton of forms and the Dr. said I am Bipolar. My “symptoms” include severe depression, horrible money management skills, and poor decision making skills. No Manic episodes. I am a recovering alcoholic sober for 3 years. For the first time in my life I was fired in February. Due to performance issues. I have a problem with my memory mainly that I don’t have one. Also, I can’t concentrate or focus. I take six different meds and I don’t feel like they are doing me any good. I feel like since I was diagnosed BP and started taking all of these meds that everything has gone down hill. I know you aren’t a doctor. I just want to hear your thoughts. Is there anyway I can find out that I definitely am BP or not? Has anyone felt “normal” after being diagnosed? Does it work? I’m 18 years old, and according to that test in chapter 2 i have a 64 depression level (which falls under “severe depression”). Although I dont feel severely depressed, there are several times throughout the day where I just feel hopeless, lonely, and just upset about life. And I’m super shy, which doesnt help. At all. Anyway, do you think the book will work for me? What else should I do in addition in order to maximize the benefits? I cant really afford therapy right now (although I’ll consider it in the future, in case this book doesnt work).
