Question by : What does this dream mean?!?!? Repetitive dream? Always wake up at the same time?
Okay, so I’ve been dreaming for a while the same thing. I’m at a park full of benches and picnic tables, and it’s a grassy area. There’s a platform that rises up, and it’s made of concrete, with a ramp that winds up around and to the top of it. Then there’s a deck that goes off about forty feet with a bunch of benches. I was standing at the top of the platform, looking down at all the people. I saw my friend Hunter, who saw me and pointed over at my ex (We’ll call him Rob, and I miss him very much), who was walking around like he was looking for something (or someone) he was talking to random people. He looked right at me, but didn’t see me. He was wearing a flannel unbuttoned, and the shirt under was also unbuttoned. Then he started walking up the ramp. I walked around the edge of the building once, then saw him sitting at a bench, alone, now wearing a green mountain dew shirt. I sat down on the edge of the bench beside him. He looked at me, and I gestured for him to scoot over. He moved way down to the end of the bench, so I put my legs up on the bench. I was randomly wearing a black knee skirt and fur boots. I looked at him.
“It’s funny,” he said, “My medication wears off at four o’clock now.” (he doesn’t take meds! and I knew he was talking about anti-depressants!)
“Mine never worked in the first place,” I said back. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too,” he said. His face was in front of mine. “I need you.”
I put my hand on the back of his neck. “I need you too, I cry myself to sleep every night thinking about you.”
And then I woke up.
It’s a serious question, please answer with all seriousness, thanks! =P I’d love to know what this means..

Best answer:

Answer by Theresa Angel
maybe the dream signifies that you both need each other. Perhaps the reason why the dream has been repetitive is so you can pay attention to it and do something about it.

Article by Jennifer Baxt

Bipolar disorder is a kind of depression that can be difficult to handle, especially for those who don’t have a good understanding of what it is. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a condition where a person will go through lows of depression and then highs of mania or irritability. People will bipolar disorder will appear hyper in both speech and action during the high and then appear lethargic during a low. They will lack much of a social life, will feel irritable, have mood swings, sometimes have impulsive behavior, have racy thoughts and not sleep as much as they used to. Someone with this disorder will often exhibit two or more of these signs, but few will notice it at first because few understand that these symptoms could be a warning of this kind of disorder.

Bipolar disorder will often develop during the younger years; it could show up in childhood, adolescence and even as late as the early twenties. There is speculation that bipolar disorder could be genetic and is triggered in people with it after they have been through a stressful and/or traumatic situation. It is also thought that drug abuse could trigger it as well. Many who have this particular disorder will not find help, probably because they don’t personally feel that they might have a problem. When left untreated, however, a person’s marriage could be ruined, as well as their schooling, their career and their social life. They can become aggressive, pessimistic and negative toward most things. People will start to avoid them because they will take the fun out of life around them.

Someone who has a friend or a family member should do their best to get this person into counseling. There is, really, very little that a person can do for someone who has bipolar disorder. In most cases, all a person can do is to be as supportive as they can while they try to get this person interested in going counseling. What a person can do is to find out all they can about bipolar disorder so that they can find out if this person really is suffering from this kind of depression. Online counselors are available to answer any questions and concerns that a person may have regarding the illness. One a person determines whether or not they think their friend or family member is possibly suffering from bipolar disorder, than they might be able to persuade the person to consult a counselor. Many people with this kind of disorder will not want to accept that there is anything wrong, so convincing them to see a counselor can be a hard task, but it must be done. Most will be more open to the idea of consulting an online counselor, because it is convenient and also because they won’t have to take too much time and effort to go see a counselor in person. If they can be persuaded to give online counseling a try, they just might be able to get the help and treatment they need.

Question by Adriana A: A question “bipolar disorder”?
Hi, I just want to know if bipolar people think too much, or the obsessive compulsive disorder could be related with bipolarity.

I have obsessive compulsive disorder, but I have periods for example, I can feel very happy, and with more sexual desires, but I don’t have bad behavior, and I sleep less this it`s like a week or maybe two. And I have depresive periods, very but I think so much. Well I just want to know If this it’s for be obsessive or something else. Thank you.
yes I see a doctor and he said that he needs to study my case and said too that all started as a OCD but I don’t tell him nothing about my mood, I was in a severe depression but I’m taking Prozac and I feel good. I`m not a teenager I have 24 and all started since I was 16 years old.

Question by Max: I feel another ‘bad day’ coming on…?
I’m 21 years old…. I’ve had clynical depression since I was 9… My doctor won’t give me pills because she thinks everyone’s a junkie. My parents don’t care (they think I’m just dramatic) so I’ve also never seen a therapist. I don’t have a job, I’m in college (online, which SUCKS) and I can’t GET a job.

I’m starting to “fade”… … … hard to explain, but its like a signal I get before I have a really bad day (or week, depending on HOW bad) … … I haven’t had one in a while (not “depression-bad” just normal-bad) so I’m really freaking out… my usual “anti-depressant” is being around friends… but I don’t have any left. (They all slowly started ignoring me, so now I have no one and nothing.

I can’t focus, I don’t really eat (my family makes meals & tells me to eat, so I do, but I don’t know if I’m even hungry) and I haven’t had a shower in days… my bed is broken (stupid box-spring broke) so my bed is freakishly uncomfortable and my back has been killing me all day (worse than usual)……….

Right about now (as if on queue) my eyes are trying to fight off tears and I keep spacing out… (And no, I don’t drink or do drugs) and I keep losing my train of thought… … …

I need help, but I don’t know what to do… I don’t want to go to sleep, ’cause tomorrow will start & I really don’t want that.
(My dad seems to think it’s okay to come into a 21 year old’s room & wake her up, telling her to ‘get with the day’ and jump up & do whatever he wants me to, like re-arranging the basement, painting the laundry room, doing dishes, etc without a shower or even change of clothes, without ‘breakfast’ or even a bathroom break…)

I read to fight off my ‘crazy-ness’… I just finished “pretties” by scott westerfield, lol… but it just makes me feel more disconncted… I try to do some of my coursework, but it just makes me paranoid about failing… I don’t know what to do. (Which is why I’m on Y!A… again)

Any advice?

(BTW, I don’t want to hear any crap about religion. Religiously I’m fine & dandy, so don’t waste your time, or you’ll be mocked ruthlessly)
.

Jenieve:
I DON’T have any friends, I said that… I know, my post was freakishly long, I don’t even know how I typed that much…

As for the rest… yeah, I can’t “change doctors” ’cause I’m on my parents’ insurance, so they’d have to approve it, & they won’t want to pay my co-pays, and I have no money (no job) SO I’m pretty much SCREWED…

.
& for the record, I’ve been telling my parents I need therapy since I was in 4th grade. (Which, coincidentally, is when my clynical depression started. I told them I wanted to see someone, ‘get therapy’ etc, but they just rolled their eyes & laughed it off… They’re not too good at seeing/dealing when it comes to conflict.
.

kennadee:

I am switching to an in-person college, transferring to art school (I got into my #1 choice, which I was too scared to apply to before, AND I’m getting a lot of scholarship money, but I still need a private student loan, lol)

Anyway, I keep telling myself to get up & take a shower, but I can’t stand my family’s reaction… they act all surprised & smug, like “Ohmigawd, you took a SHOWER??? Gee, did h*** freeze over?” …

But yeah, I’m too spacy to actually DO things… I don’t know why… I can think them, I can know I need to do them, I can even picture myself doing them (like right now, shower, brush-teeth, tai-chi, bed) but I can’t actually DO it…

*sigh* but I’ll try though… I’ll fight the ‘heavy’ feeling that’s holding me in my chair & I’ll ‘add details’ again to let you know if I actually succeeded in getting out of my room, lol.

I have an excuse to get out there though, ’cause I’m thirsty… might as well shower while I’m there. :p

.
Okay, yeah, I definately feel a lot cleaner, lol. (My hair feels way lighter too, despite a large towel wrapped around it)

So yeah… I’m really tired right now, even though I woke up like 11 hours ago. :/

Anywho, I’ll keep checking back for more answers, but I might not update again tonight. *yawn*

Best answer:

Answer by Anokhi
See another doctor. GP’s are not really fully trained in mental health. They should refer you to someone for appropriate help. Keep changing doctors if you have to till you find one who understands. But they shouldn’t really prescribe you anti-depressants. You are better off getting prescribed medication from a psychiatrist. But don’t expect them to do the miracle work for you. If you take them along with councelling or therapy they will be much more effective.

Article by Debra Burdick

Do you or your child toss and turn at night and experience daytime sleepiness? Have you or your child been diagnosed with ADHD, depression, or anxiety. Fifty percent of children in a recent study that had been diagnosed with ADHD had difficulty sleeping. They felt tired on awakening, had nightmares, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, trouble getting up in the morning, and significant daytime sleepiness. And stimulant medications further impaired their ability to sleep.

Research shows that some form of sleep disruption is present in nearly all psychiatric disorders. For over 20 years, clinical studies have suggested the existence of a relationship between depression and a sleep disorder called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Up to twenty percent of all patients presenting with a diagnosed depressive syndrome may also have OSA, and vice versa.

And sleep apnea has also been associated with an increased risk of anxiety and panic attacks. Anxiety can be the cause of sleeping problems, and conversely, the results of a recent study suggest that people with chronic insomnia are at high risk of developing an anxiety disorder. That’s because a lack of sleep stimulates the part of the brain most closely associated with depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric disorders.

Sometimes it is difficult to determine which came first, the sleep disturbance or the depression, anxiety, or ADHD. It can seem like a viscous cycle. Depression can cause insomnia and insomnia can cause depression. Anxiety can cause people to have difficulty falling or staying asleep. ADHD can cause problems falling asleep. And in reverse, their poor sleep quality may be making their condition worse.

Snoring can result in poor sleep which may lead to attention problems the next day. A study involving 5- to 7-year-olds found that snoring is significantly more common among children with mild ADHD than it is in the general population. And in another study, children who snored were almost twice as likely as their peers to have ADHD. Children who snore perform significantly worse on tests of attention, language, and overall intelligence. Some studies have shown that taking out the tonsils and adenoids may result in better sleep and improved behavior without the need for medications for ADHD.

Snoring may be an indication that Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is present. Clinically, Obstructive Sleep Apnea is suspected when a patient presents with excessive daytime sleepiness and sometimes, but not always, snoring. OSA is characterized by decreases or pausing in breathing while asleep. An accompanying decrease in blood oxygen level and/or arousal from sleep is present as well. The prevalence of OSA is higher in men than in women and its prevalence increases with age. In children, the prevalence of OSA has been estimated to be 2-8%. Between the ages of 30 to 65 years, 24% of men and 9% of women had OSA. Among adults over 55 years of age, 30-60% met the criteria. In a population of community-dwelling older adults, 70% of men and 56% of women between the ages of 65 to 99 years have evidence of OSA. There is also an increase in OSA with obesity.

In children, the most common cause of obstructive sleep apnea is enlarged tonsils and adenoids in the upper airway. This has increased with the decline in tonsil removal that has taken place over the past twenty years. Allergies may also contribute to obstructive airway problems.

Sleep apnea is diagnosed by doing a sleep study. To have a sleep study, a person spends a night at a sleep study center with EEG electrodes attached to their head and other sensors measuring respiration and heart rate. By watching the person and changes in the raw EEG as well as other sensors while the person sleeps, the sleep technician can tell if sleep apnea is present. If so, typically the person is fitted with a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device that keeps the airway open during sleep. Other treatment options include weight loss, change in sleeping position, and sometimes surgery – particularly if the tonsils or adenoids are the culprit.

The medical director at a sleep center recently told me about a study where sleep experts were unable to accurately diagnose sleep apnea simply by watching people sleep. Only when a sleep study was done was an accurate diagnosis able to be made.
