<p><strong><i>Question by Max</i>: I feel another &#8216;bad day&#8217; coming on&#8230;?</strong><br />
I&#8217;m 21 years old&#8230;. I&#8217;ve had clynical <a href="http://abrokenlife.com" target=_self>depression</a> since I was 9&#8230; My doctor won&#8217;t give me pills because she thinks everyone&#8217;s a junkie. My parents don&#8217;t care (they think I&#8217;m just dramatic) so I&#8217;ve also never seen a therapist. I don&#8217;t have a job, I&#8217;m in college (online, which SUCKS) and I can&#8217;t GET a job.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m starting to &#8220;fade&#8221;&#8230; &#8230; &#8230; hard to explain, but its like a signal I get before I have a really bad day (or week, depending on HOW bad) &#8230; &#8230; I haven&#8217;t had one in a while (not &#8220;depression-bad&#8221; just normal-bad) so I&#8217;m really freaking out&#8230; my usual &#8220;anti-depressant&#8221; is being around friends&#8230; but I don&#8217;t have any left. (They all slowly started ignoring me, so now I have no one and nothing.</p>
<p>I can&#8217;t focus, I don&#8217;t really eat (my family makes meals &#038; tells me to eat, so I do, but I don&#8217;t know if I&#8217;m even hungry) and I haven&#8217;t had a shower in days&#8230; my bed is broken (stupid box-spring broke) so my bed is freakishly uncomfortable and my back has been killing me all day (worse than usual)&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.</p>
<p>Right about now (as if on queue) my eyes are trying to fight off tears and I keep spacing out&#8230; (And no, I don&#8217;t drink or do drugs) and I keep losing my train of thought&#8230; &#8230; &#8230;</p>
<p>I need help, but I don&#8217;t know what to do&#8230; I don&#8217;t want to go to sleep, &#8217;cause tomorrow will start &#038; I really don&#8217;t want that. <img src='http://abrokenlife.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' title="I feel another bad day coming on...?" /><br />
(My dad seems to think it&#8217;s okay to come into a 21 year old&#8217;s room &#038; wake her up, telling her to &#8216;get with the day&#8217; and jump up &#038; do whatever he wants me to, like re-arranging the basement, painting the laundry room, doing dishes, etc without a shower or even change of clothes, without &#8216;breakfast&#8217; or even a bathroom break&#8230;)</p>
<p>I read to fight off my &#8216;crazy-ness&#8217;&#8230; I just finished &#8220;pretties&#8221; by scott westerfield, lol&#8230; but it just makes me feel more disconncted&#8230; I try to do some of my coursework, but it just makes me paranoid about failing&#8230; I don&#8217;t know what to do. (Which is why I&#8217;m on Y!A&#8230; again)</p>
<p>Any advice?</p>
<p>(BTW, I don&#8217;t want to hear any crap about religion. Religiously I&#8217;m fine &#038; dandy, so don&#8217;t waste your time, or you&#8217;ll be mocked ruthlessly)<br />

<p>As for the rest&#8230; yeah, I can&#8217;t &#8220;change doctors&#8221; &#8217;cause I&#8217;m on my parents&#8217; insurance, so they&#8217;d have to approve it, &#038; they won&#8217;t want to pay my co-pays, and I have no money (no job) SO I&#8217;m pretty much SCREWED&#8230; <img src='http://abrokenlife.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' title="I feel another bad day coming on...?" /> </p>

&#038; for the record, I&#8217;ve been telling my parents I need therapy since I was in 4th grade. (Which, coincidentally, is when my clynical depression started. I told them I wanted to see someone, &#8216;get therapy&#8217; etc, but they just rolled their eyes &#038; laughed it off&#8230; They&#8217;re not too good at seeing/dealing when it comes to conflict.<br />

<p>*sigh* but I&#8217;ll try though&#8230; I&#8217;ll fight the &#8216;heavy&#8217; feeling that&#8217;s holding me in my chair &#038; I&#8217;ll &#8216;add details&#8217; again to let you know if I actually succeeded in getting out of my room, lol.</p>
<p>I have an excuse to get out there though, &#8217;cause I&#8217;m thirsty&#8230; might as well shower while I&#8217;m there. :p</p>

<p><i>Answer by Anokhi</i><br/>See another doctor. GP&#8217;s are not really fully trained in mental health. They should refer you to someone for appropriate help. Keep changing doctors if you have to till you find one who understands. But they shouldn&#8217;t really prescribe you anti-depressants. You are better off getting prescribed medication from a psychiatrist. But don&#8217;t expect them to do the miracle work for you. If you take them along with councelling or therapy they will be much more effective.</p>

<p><b>Do you or your child toss and turn at night and experience daytime sleepiness?</b> Have you or your child been diagnosed with ADHD, depression, or anxiety. Fifty percent of children in a recent study that had been diagnosed with ADHD had difficulty sleeping. They felt tired on awakening, had nightmares, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, trouble getting up in the morning, and significant daytime sleepiness. And stimulant medications further impaired their ability to sleep.</p>
<p><b>Research shows that some form of sleep disruption is present in nearly all psychiatric disorders.</b> For over 20 years, clinical studies have suggested the existence of a relationship between depression and a sleep disorder called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Up to twenty percent of all patients presenting with a diagnosed depressive syndrome may also have OSA, and vice versa.</p>
<p><b>And sleep apnea has also been associated with an increased risk of anxiety and panic attacks.</b> Anxiety can be the cause of sleeping problems, and conversely, the results of a recent study suggest that people with chronic insomnia are at high risk of developing an anxiety disorder. That&#8217;s because a lack of sleep stimulates the part of the brain most closely associated with depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric disorders.</p>
<p><b>Sometimes it is difficult to determine which came first, the sleep disturbance or the depression, anxiety, or ADHD.</b> It can seem like a viscous cycle. Depression can cause insomnia and insomnia can cause depression. Anxiety can cause people to have difficulty falling or staying asleep. ADHD can cause problems falling asleep. And in reverse, their poor sleep quality may be making their condition worse.</p>
<p><b>Snoring can result in poor sleep which may lead to attention problems the next day.</b> A study involving 5- to 7-year-olds found that snoring is significantly more common among children with mild ADHD than it is in the general population. And in another study, children who snored were almost twice as likely as their peers to have ADHD. Children who snore perform significantly worse on tests of attention, language, and overall intelligence. Some studies have shown that taking out the tonsils and adenoids may result in better sleep and improved behavior without the need for medications for ADHD.</p>
<p><b>Snoring may be an indication that Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is present.</b> Clinically, Obstructive Sleep Apnea is suspected when a patient presents with excessive daytime sleepiness and sometimes, but not always, snoring. OSA is characterized by decreases or pausing in breathing while asleep. An accompanying decrease in blood oxygen level and/or arousal from sleep is present as well. The prevalence of OSA is higher in men than in women and its prevalence increases with age. In children, the prevalence of OSA has been estimated to be 2-8%. Between the ages of 30 to 65 years, 24% of men and 9% of women had OSA. Among adults over 55 years of age, 30-60% met the criteria. In a population of community-dwelling older adults, 70% of men and 56% of women between the ages of 65 to 99 years have evidence of OSA. There is also an increase in OSA with obesity.</p>
<p><b>In children, the most common cause of obstructive sleep apnea is enlarged tonsils and adenoids in the upper airway.</b> This has increased with the decline in tonsil removal that has taken place over the past twenty years. Allergies may also contribute to obstructive airway problems.</p>
<p><b>Sleep apnea is diagnosed by doing a sleep study.</b> To have a sleep study, a person spends a night at a sleep study center with EEG electrodes attached to their head and other sensors measuring respiration and heart rate. By watching the person and changes in the raw EEG as well as other sensors while the person sleeps, the sleep technician can tell if sleep apnea is present. If so, typically the person is fitted with a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device that keeps the airway open during sleep. Other treatment options include weight loss, change in sleeping position, and sometimes surgery &#8211; particularly if the tonsils or adenoids are the culprit.</p>
<p><b>The medical director at a sleep center recently told me about a study where sleep experts were unable to accurately diagnose sleep apnea simply by watching people sleep.</b> Only when a sleep study was done was an accurate diagnosis able to be made.</p>

<p>I am bipolar 1 with more attention to MANIA rather than <a href="http://abrokenlife.com" target=_self>depression</a>&#8230;  I have been &#8220;delusional&#8221; during at least 2 episodes&#8230;I didnt sleep the other night and was in a full MANIA but went to sleep about 7:30 am until about 1:00 pm and MANIA was TOTALLY GONE!!! I have NEVER experienced mania coming and going SO FAST!</p>

<p><i>Answer by Mike</i><br/>It depends. If you have hypomania, which is a mild-moderate form of mania found in Bipolar 2 disorder, then it definitely is manageable without meds. If you have mania with Bipolar 1, then most likely you will not be able to control it. Meds are good, don&#8217;t be so resistant.</p>

So I originally went into the doctor to seek help because I thought I may have ADD/ADHD.<br />
I scored very high on the ADD test and the doctor then gave me a <a href="http://abrokenlife.com" target=_self>depression</a> test which I scored extremely low on(Meaning I did not show signs of depression). He then proceeded in telling me that he thought I was depressed andhad anxiety and wanted to try me on Zoloft.</p>
<p>I am almost positive that I am ADD, I have an extremely hard time consentrating, I have to study/sleep with ear plugs or else I am unable to do either, I am so impulsive in everything that I do to the point that I am having major problems with it, It takes me an hour to read three pages in my textbooks, I cannot concentrate on tests, I am always tired, my mind races constantly, and the list goes on.</p>
<p>So I started the Zoloft and the first four days I was vomitting every three hours, I felt like I couldnt breath, I started having anxiety attacks, and I felt like I was on the outside watching someone elses life go by. I never want to expirence this again. And I am pretty sure a medicatin that is supposed to help your &#8220;anxiety&#8221; will not give you anxiety that never exsisted before. </p>
<p>I am currently off the medication and going back into my doctor. I feel as though I have been severely misdiagnosed.<br />
Any suggestions? What should I tell him?<br />
HELP!</p>

<p><i>Answer by Iris</i><br/>tell him what it&#8217;s doing to you and stop taking the meds. go back to him and tell him you are pretty sure it&#8217;s something else that is causing you not to concentrate. if he doesn&#8217;t listen, I would find another doc.</p>

I can not concentrate. on anything at all ! I have a higher temper, tiny things annoy me, and i have a quite quick fuze. I also cannot fall asleep, ever. I go to bed close to 11 and i do not fall asleep right up until at least three. the other day I woke up at seven, went to college all day, went to work, then came house and couldn&#8217;t fall asleep right up until 6am.I have sleeping tablets that my doctor prescribed to me but they don&#8217;t support at all, all they do is make it impossible for me to wake up in the morning, they don&#8217;t assist me fall asleep at all. I have also been feeling Very depressed. I did some study online and took an on-line &#8220;ADD check&#8221; and if you got a score of 70 or greater you almost certainly have ADD, my score was 83. I also identified that ritalin which would treat ADD causes insomnia, and could trigger depression. so my query is: how do i get place on something that will deal with all three and not make one worse? and could untreated ADD cauuuse depression and insomnia? I just moved away for college so i havent been able to go to my household doctor, im going residence this weekend but i can only go to the clinic simply because my physician wont be in, will the clinic be able to support me with these issues or would i want to go to my loved ones doctor?</p>

i know going through an IVF cycle makes your body feel all out of whack to begin with, but did you feel different before getting positive tests??  my transfer (5 day) was this past saturday and for the last 2 days i&#8217;ve had this dull &#8220;ache&#8221; in my lower abdomen&#8230;plus i have been incredibly tired and sleep like crazy (even through the dog whining apparently) and still feel exhausted.</p>
<p>Did anybody have &#8220;signs or symptoms&#8221; and get a positive test back??</p>

Sorry about the length.</p>
<p>I am fairly confident I have depression. I have been having these feelings given that final semester, and it shows since my grades have dropped a lot. I have by no means in my life received a GPA below a 3., and final semester it was a two.six. This semester, I am not feeling any greater. I&#8217;m already not obtaining good grades on assignments, I am not motivated to do my homework or even get out of bed to go to class. I by no means want to go out and do something on the weekend. I&#8217;d rather just keep at property and sleep (which I in no way feel I get adequate of.) I really feel super guilty about acquiring poor grades, particularly contemplating that we&#8217;re having to pay out of state tuition. I lost a scholarship that would have helped out a lot because of me getting beneath a 3.. I am commencing to think that the only reason I am attending this college is simply because my mom went right here and it is creating her joyful. This is my second year here and I don&#8217;t feel pleased at all.</p>
<p>Also, I&#8217;ve been acquiring a lot of migraines lately. Usually, I just get them close to my time of the month, but final week I had three migraines within a 5 day period. That does not seem standard. When my mother was younger, she had persistent migraines, and my father is diagnosed with <a href="http://abrokenlife.com" target=_self>depression</a> and was on medication. I told my mom a few days ago about my migraines and she is concerned and recommended I see a physician. I was asking yourself if depression and migraines a hereditary?</p>
<p>I want to tell a person. I am not certain if I really should tell my mom or dad 1st, or just go see a physician. I guess I am worried that no 1 will take me seriously. I know the &#8220;tests&#8221; on-line to see if you have depression are not genuine or correct, but I&#8217;ve taken a lot more than 1 and my benefits have stated that I probably do have depression. </p>
<p>Should I just text my mom and be like, &#8220;I think I have depression?&#8221; Or get in touch with her or something? I believe if I was in fact speaking to her I&#8217;d possibly break down and cry. I don&#8217;t feel she&#8217;d take me seriously. I do not know what to do. Your ideas would be fantastic. <p>By the way, no 1 knows I&#8217;m feeling like this. I pretend that I am pleased and enjoying myself. Absolutely everyone thinks I&#8217;m fine.</p>
