I’m a teen who struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts and now I really want to help prevent teens from committing suicide. I want to actively do something, not just donate money to charities. What do you think is the best way for someone of my age to help the cause?
Firstly how nice that you want to help other teens its very refreshing to see a kind hearted teen.
I think start with your local charity groups who deal with suicide in your area, they will lead you down the right path.
Good luck to you and your new charity.

I really want to hear from teens that are cutting or thinking about suicide or those who used to cut and used to have suicidal thoughts, and how you overcame them. I have someone that is very near and dear to my heart that I very much want to help. All with serious answers please help.
I’m not getting many answers here, but I know you’re out there…but you don’t want everyone to know.
Email me !
First off, you’re right, this is an uncomfortable subject.
When I had this problem and friends around me had this problem, it was all because of emotional reasons. Things weren’t going the way we wanted them to in our lives and it was making us depressed. It built up all this stress that we felt like we couldn’t cope with anymore. Seeing blood and seeing that you can be injured was a way of knowing you’re mortal, you are human. It felt as if you were bleeding yourself of your ailments. Then, the thought of suicide offered an easy way to get out of it all. It was a solution to rid you of all the stress. That way, when everything came out, you wouldn’t have to be around to hear what others are saying and it would all be gone. Most of the cutting and suicidal tendencies that friends and I faced were affected by the way we viewed ourselves in our peers eyes and not the way we viewed ourselves.
When I stopped, it’s because I realized what it was doing to people around me. It was only later on what I realized I was doing to myself. I saw the looks on the other people’s faces when they saw the marks. I noticed the way they reacted when I told them a made-up, impractical story to try to cover it up. It’s when people started talking is when it actually stopped. I woke up to see that others would lose respect for me if they knew I had such a strange problem. I realized that I would always be watched and I could never really do what I wanted to do without being cared for; cradled. And now, when I see the scars, I realize that I lived though whatever I was going through, and now things are better.
To help that person who is dear to you, you need to care for them. I know it’s an obvious answer, but it’s exactly what you have to do. I know that if there was someone out there who told me that I would get through the hard times, I wouldn’t have hurt myself. If someone was by my side telling me that everything gets better and I’ll learn to love my life, I wouldn’t have made so many bad choices. After I went through my problem and got over it, it was time to help my best friend.
My best friend’s step father was on suicide watch with a drinking problem. She’s never met her real father, but she has no respect for him because of the stories she had been told. Her mother was always finding problems with her no matter what she did and she began to drink too. Then my friend, a really good girl, began to drink, cut, and try to end her life. After I was done with my issues, I did for her EXACTLY what I wished someone would have done for me. I stood by her. I took away her opportunities to make bad decisions and replaced them with fun activities that didn’t involve those bad choices. We went to movies, the beach, and just hung out and all the while I told her that life doesn’t have to be the depressing place she sees it as. It can be so much fun as I was showing her, and then she stopped. She saw the truth like I did. She saw that I was there for her.
I hope that all of this helps you. I hope you can understand your dear one’s problems now and have some idea of what they are going through. This firsthand account should be your way of explaining to them exactly what I explained to my best friend and what I wish could have been explained to me much earlier.
"Life goes on and it’s amazing. And I’m glad to know that you’ll always be there proving that to me."
-my best friend

Reuters – Despite earlier health agency warnings, there is no strong evidence that the anti-smoking drug Chantix raises the risk of suicidal thoughts or depression compared to other stop-smoking products, researchers reported Thursday in the British Medical Journal.

sorry, its a bit general, but that’s how she told us
I’m tolerant toward my neighbors, but how tolerance is related to teen suicsuicide, i can’t see the comparison- maybe putting up with their quarks and ways. but if they are having suicidal thoughts, how being tolerance is going to help them out. i think it goes a little more deeper than that, there need to be a sense of belonging,( probably love will help a lot more than tolerance). what is tolerance? the churches say that we got to be united even though we believe differently. i’m tolerant toward

It is now being discovered that the antidepressant medication known as Paxil is more deadly than helpful. As the matter of fact, Paxil has recently been given the street name of “suicide” pills. This is because it has been proven that children and adults who took Paxil for their depression or other mental related illness had increased thoughts of suicide and violence.
The law requires that drug companies disclose all information related to the risks of a specific medication to the Food and Drug Administration. It was recently discovered that the GlaxoSmithKline Company, which manufactures Paxil, concealed and misrepresented information about the side effects and addicting elements of Paxil.
It is believed that this was done in order to boost the sales of the drug. Not only did it boost the sales of Paxil, it also caused thousands of patients who took Paxil to experience increased thoughts of suicide and violence; and unfortunately, many acted upon these thoughts.
According to reports conducted by the IMR (Investigative Medication Routine), between the years 1993 and 2002, there were 19,000 persons in the United States who were victims of Paxil-induced suicides. That is a rate of about 6,000 per year. Studies have shown that the suicidal rate while taking Paxil has doubled and even tripled all over the world.
It is especially increased in children under the age of eighteen who took Paxil. Reports state that young children experienced suicidal thoughts, wild, out of control behavior, hallucinations, and hospitalization while taking Paxil.
It was estimated that approximately twenty to forty percent of the patients, including children who took Paxil had side effects severe enough to terminate the medication. However, when they terminated the medication, they were likely to experience withdraw symptoms because of the addicting elements of Paxil.
Because of the high number of Paxil-induced suicides around the world, GlaxoSmithKline, the British pharmaceutical giant, is now facing potential criminal prosecution for allegedly failing to inform the Food and Drug Administration and British drug authorities about the suicidal risk related to taking Paxil.
Have you thought about suicide or other violent actions while taking Paxil? Do you know someone who has thought about or actually committed suicide while taking Paxil? If you answered yes, then you should speak with an experienced Paxil attorney as soon as possible because you may be entitled to compensatory damages. A Paxil lawyer will be able to explain the possibility of a lawsuit with you and inform you of your rights regarding the claim.

Is suicide ideation normal for teens? How common is it in the general population? What is the correlation between suicide ideation and a suicide attemp? (Do most people who think about killing themselves regularly usually end up attempting to?)
It is fairly common. I think almost everyone has had at least one moment in their life where they thought about suicide, even if only briefly. The majority of people who have suicidal thoughts don’t go through with attempts (the nature of survival instinct is a frequent interference), though it’s still important to take them all seriously.

For a huge amount of people that are suffering from depression, suicide is a huge risk. It is really not uncommon for those that are suffering from any type of depression to contemplate suicide, whether they mean to go through with it or not. Normally if someone is going through a bought of severe depression, suicide isn’t something that they have the physical energy to go through with. However once the depression begins to lift there is a really great chance of them attempting to do harm to themselves.
For individuals that are suffering from depression, suicide is often looked at as a symptom of their condition. The many different symptoms that people contemplating suicide can experience can be treated by medical therapies. If you happen to be suffering from depression, suicide thoughts of any type should be taken extremely seriously and a qualified health care professional should be consulted as soon as possible.
When suffering from depression, suicide issues can be hard to diagnose and deal with. Risk factors with depression and suicidal issues can depend on things like your age and gender, and are often likely to change over the course of your life. Those experiencing suicidal thoughts are generally also going through some type of depressive illness as well. Many research studies performed by health care practitioners have shown that with individuals suffering through depression, suicide issues are really quite common. Further research by healthcare professionals shows that people who have thoughts of suicide have had some type of alteration to the neurotransmitters in their brain.
Suicidal thoughts are very common in those who are depressed and go through a major life event or trauma. Although suicidal thoughts are not normally a reaction by most people suffering the daily stresses in life, they can happen to anyone. Some of the risk factors that can bring about the thoughts of suicide can include many of the following:
If you are diagnosed with any type of depression, suicide thoughts and issues are likely.
Life events such as being jailed or a previous suicide attempt by you or someone close to you can be factors.
Should you have a family history of depression it is likely suicidal thoughts are something you could be dealing with. Other family related factors that can lead to depression and suicidal issues include any type of physical and emotional abuse as well as a history in your family of drug abuse.
Exposure to others that have either tried to commit suicide or when successful at it due to their depression can be a huge risk factor.
So what can be done when you find out that you or someone you know is at risk of suicide?
First, many people need to come to the realization that a person is seeking attention, and need immediate help if they are discussing suicide. For many people battling depression, it becomes an option in their minds and speaking of it is a way to ask for help.
For individuals that are experience depression, suicide prevention is essential. Many healthcare providers believe that with an accurate diagnosis of depression, suicide can often be avoided. Being able to effectively diagnose and treat depression is one of the very best ways to avoid suicidal thoughts and actual suicide attempts.
It is essential that it is determined whether or not a person is suffering from a mental disorder versus a substance abuse related disorder. Unintentional suicide can be caused by substance abuse, so it will be important for the sufferer to receive treatment for both. When trying to effectively prevent suicide, it is important to remember that in someone with depression, suicide will always remain a risk.
