So lately I feel as if my family doesn’t appreciate me and all that I’ve done,
Whenever I even ask my dad for help with anything he answers then adds “Jesus…” to the end
For example: me “dad can you help me study for my test?” him “IM BUSY. jesus…”
I cry every night because of them, and i have had suicidal thoughts and thoughts about running away. i fell as if no one knows what im going through. please help

Normal moods are the body’s reaction to outside or inside stimuli, allowing everyone to handle, cope, or otherwise experience healthy emotions. Bipolar disorder, also called manic-depressive disorder, is one of the many mood disorders-abnormal psychological conditions characterized by extreme, repetitive swings in mood over prolonged periods in life.

Bipolar disorder is characterized by alternating episodes of mania (high energy and elated thought) and depression (low energy and blues). In some cases, however, symptoms of mania and depression may occur together in a state called Mixed Bipolar State. Bipolar disorder facts show that over 2 million adult Americans suffer every year from it.

Types of Bipolar Disorder

Two main types of bipolar disorder are commonly known: bipolar I disorder and bipolar II disorder. In the former case, the patient has experienced at least one episode of high mania. Numerous episodes of hypomania alternating with depression are called cyclothymic disorder.

Highs

Sufferers of bipolar mood disorder experience the presence of highs, which are characterized by increased physical and mental activity and energy; heightened mood, exaggerated optimism and self-confidence; excessive irritability, aggressive behavior; decreased need for sleep without experiencing fatigue; grandiose delusions; racing speech; impulsiveness; reckless behavior; delusions and hallucinations.

Lows

Bipolar mood disorder, as well as other depressive disorders include severe lows, such as prolonged sadness or unexplained crying spells; significant changes in sleep patterns; irritability, anger, worry, agitation; pessimism; loss of energy or extreme fatigue; feelings of guilt or worthlessness; inability to concentrate, unexplained aches and pains, and suicidal thoughts.

Manic Episodes

Manic episodes are characterized by high activity, irritability and restlessness, euphoric feeling, racing thinking and speech hopping from topic to topic, impulsiveness, lack of concentration and poor judgment. In many cases the manic-depressive shows erratic or rash behavior e.g. in driving or sexual activity. In severe cases of mania, hallucinations (hearing voices that are not there) and delusions (strong irrational beliefs about reality) may also occur.

Depressive Episodes

Depression includes gloomy mood with feelings of emptiness and often crying spells. Pessimism, indifference, indecisiveness, and (in extreme cases) recurring thoughts of death and suicide are other main indicators of depression.

Victims of Bipolar Disorder

According to published bipolar disorder facts, the disorder occurs in all ages, races, ethnic groups and social classes. Men and women equally suffer from it, though women have been reported to experience more rapid cycling of mood swings.

The Age of Vulnerability

Bipolar disorder facts reveal that this abnormality mostly strikes in late adolescence or early adult life (90 % cases start before age 20).

Diagnosis

Patients thought to be suffering from bipolar mood disorder cannot be self-diagnosed. Since there are no lab tests that can indicate the presence of the disorder, a trained medical or mental health professional must conduct interviews and tests; if medication is required, it must be strictly managed.

Being an inhibitor which works by limiting the amount of neurotransmitter re-absorbed by the brain, Escitalopram is a selective serotinin uptake inhibitor. Nortriptyline, also an antidepressant, not only inhibits the uptake of sertonin, it also inhibits the intake of norepinephrine and dopamine (neurotransmitters too).

In an experiment spreading over 12 weeks and involving people under the effects of anti depressant, it was shown that both drugs decreased suicidal thoughts, hence suppressing the effects of anti depressant.

However, those who took Nortriptyline displayed a higher amount of suicidal thoughts than those who took Escitalopram. There was a 9.8 times risk of developing suicidal thoughts for the first time, and for those who already had suicidal inclinations, the risk increased by 2.4 times. These statistics holds more truth for men under severe effects of anti depressant.

Why does this research seem to contradict studies that hypothesize antidepressants help in overcoming effects caused by depressant? Or why is it that the effects of antidepressants seem to be less of that for patients placed on placebo trials?

One main flaw of other studies simply involve patients suffering from severe consequences of depressant, and thereafter generalise the results to those who suffer milder depression.

That being said, we cannot simply dispel the opinion that antidepressants are useless. It just means there is more to do to help people suffering from effects of depressant. For instance, doctors may need to venture into alternative treatments to battle the aftermath caused by depressant.

More importantly, current treatment guidelines may need to be modified. The notion that antidepressants cannot work effectively against depressant underscore the need for doctors to monitor patients

I’m sixteen and I’m a senior in high school. This year I’ve started having a lot of the “symptoms” of depression (apathy, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, difficulty making decisions, excessive guilt, irresponsible behavior, loss of interest in food, sadness, anxiety, or a feeling of hopelessness, losing interest in things once extremely important to me, withdrawal from friends, etc). It’s been just about everything except for things like suicidal thoughts. I had twice the work-load from school and such last year, but I was never so tired. I’ve stopped caring about music, the one thing that drove my life, I can’t make myself do anything anymore. I’ve lost strength, desire, and drive. It’s scaring me, and I don’t know what to do. I’ve been more emotional than ever this year as well. I don’t know, I don’t want to bring it up with my parents. Are there any reasons this could just be because it’s senior year and stuff? Thanks.
